Picture a RevOps engineer who spends forty minutes every Monday manually pushing updated contact properties into HubSpot through the web UI – clicking through menus, waiting for page loads, cross-referencing a spreadsheet. That’s the exact workflow that hubspotctl 0.8.1, a new open-source command-line interface for HubSpot CRM published on PyPI, is designed to cut down. The tool lets developers and technically-minded ops professionals interact with HubSpot directly from the terminal, treating CRM data the way engineers have always preferred to handle it: through scripts, pipelines, and version-controlled commands.

Of the two developments in this week’s CRM news, this is the more significant – not because CLI tools are glamorous, but because they signal where serious CRM teams are headed. Away from clicking through dashboards, toward code-driven operations that are repeatable, auditable, and faster to scale.

What Is hubspotctl and Who Actually Needs It?

HubSpot CRM automation has historically been handled through HubSpot’s native workflow builder, third-party iPaaS tools like Zapier or Make, or direct API calls written from scratch. The hubspotctl 0.8.1 release sits in a different niche – it’s a purpose-built CLI that lets you run HubSpot operations from the command line without writing full API wrapper code every time.

That’s a meaningful gap to fill. If you’re a solo RevOps engineer or a small ops team at a scaling B2B company, writing bespoke API scripts for routine tasks like bulk contact updates or pipeline stage changes is time-consuming. The web interface is fine for occasional changes, but it doesn’t scale when you need to run the same operation across thousands of records. hubspotctl fits between those two options – structured enough to be reliable, fast enough to use routinely.

The tool is available via PyPI, which means it installs with a standard pip install hubspotctl command – and that signals the intended audience: Python-comfortable ops and engineering professionals, not sales reps or marketers. It’s not a replacement for HubSpot’s UI for the average user. It’s for the person who owns the sales pipeline architecture and needs to move fast without clicking through five screens.

Why CLI-Driven CRM Work Is Gaining Ground

The shift toward developer-friendly CRM tooling has been building for a while. HubSpot’s own API has matured considerably, and the broader category of go-to-market tooling has followed software engineering conventions – infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows. Someone was eventually going to package common HubSpot operations into a CLI that fits naturally into those environments.

There’s a practical reason this matters for metrics that RevOps teams care about. When CRM updates are manual and UI-dependent, they’re slow, inconsistent, and deprioritized. That creates data quality issues that compound over time – dirty contact records, stale deal stages, unreliable sales forecasts. A CLI that makes routine CRM operations scriptable means those updates can run on a schedule, be triggered by other system events, and be logged for audit purposes.

Data quality, as most RevOps practitioners already know, is the silent factor behind win rate and churn rate accuracy. If your HubSpot instance has stale or incomplete records, every report built on top of it is suspect. Tools that lower the friction of keeping CRM data current are genuinely useful – even if they don’t look exciting from the outside.

How Zapier Email Recipes Fit Into the Same Trend

The second development this week comes from Plusvibe.ai, which has published a set of six Zapier email automation recipes targeting sales, marketing, and ops teams. Designed to be copied directly, the recipes cover the core email automation use cases that come up repeatedly in GTM team conversations: personalization, deliverability, compliance, and follow-up sequencing.

On their own, Zapier recipes aren’t news. Zapier has been a staple of no-code automation stacks for years. What’s worth paying attention to here is how these recipes are framed – not as isolated automations, but as interconnected pieces of a system where personalization, deliverability, and compliance work together rather than separately. That framing reflects how mature ops teams actually think about email automation. You can’t optimize one without affecting the others.

For teams using HubSpot as their CRM, the combination of CLI tooling and Zapier automations points toward a layered approach:

Use hubspotctl for bulk, scheduled, or script-triggered CRM data operations where speed and repeatability matter
Use Zapier recipes for cross-tool event-driven automations – the kind triggered by a form fill, a deal stage change, or an email open
Let HubSpot’s native workflows handle the logic that sits inside the CRM itself, closer to contact and deal records

Each layer has a job. Trying to do everything with Zapier gets messy at scale. Trying to do everything through HubSpot’s native tooling hits limits when you need to connect systems that HubSpot doesn’t natively integrate with. And doing everything through raw API scripts is maintainable only if your team has consistent engineering bandwidth. Knowing which tool to reach for is the actual skill.

What This Means for Teams Tracking Customer Acquisition Cost

Here’s the angle that gets missed in conversations about CRM tooling: operational efficiency has a direct line to Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC). When ops teams spend hours on manual CRM maintenance instead of building better processes, that overhead is real cost. It doesn’t show up on a product invoice, but it shows up in headcount and in the opportunity cost of work that never gets done.

A scriptable CLI that handles bulk HubSpot operations in seconds instead of hours isn’t just a developer convenience – it’s a compression of labor cost per CRM operation. At the scale of a growing sales org, say a team managing several thousand active contacts and a multi-stage pipeline, that compression adds up. The same logic applies to well-constructed Zapier automations that replace manual email follow-up tasks. Every handoff that runs automatically is a handoff a human doesn’t have to remember to do.

Teams with a clear Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and a tight outbound motion will feel this most acutely. The gap between a team that can execute personalized, timely follow-up at volume and one that can’t often comes down to automation infrastructure – not headcount.

Practical Steps for RevOps Teams Evaluating These Tools

If you’re considering either of these tools for your stack, the evaluation shouldn’t start with the tools themselves. Start with where your current process breaks down.

For hubspotctl: Identify the HubSpot operations your team performs repeatedly on large record sets – contact property updates, owner reassignments, pipeline stage audits. If those currently require manual UI work or custom scripts maintained by one person, a CLI purpose-built for HubSpot is worth testing. Check the PyPI page for current supported commands before committing, since 0.8.1 is still an early release and the feature set will evolve.
For Zapier email recipes: Audit your current email sequences for gaps between trigger events and follow-up actions. Recipes are most useful when they replace a documented process you’re already running manually, not when they’re introduced speculatively. Personalization fields in particular need clean CRM data to work – which loops back to the data quality point above.
For both: Think about how these tools interact. A Zapier trigger that fires when a HubSpot deal stage changes is only as reliable as the deal stage data in HubSpot. If that data is maintained through a CLI-driven script, the reliability chain is clear. If it’s maintained through manual rep input, it isn’t.

The Bigger Picture for HubSpot CRM Automation in 2026

HubSpot has spent the last few years building toward an enterprise-ready positioning, and the ecosystem around it is responding in kind. Third-party CLI tools, community-published Zapier recipes, and a growing library of API-driven integrations are all signs of a platform mature enough to support serious customization outside its native UI.

That’s meaningful for RevOps teams making stack decisions. A CRM’s value isn’t just its out-of-the-box features – it’s how easily the surrounding ecosystem lets you extend and automate it without building everything from scratch. Both the Python CLI tooling and the Zapier recipe library point in the same direction: there’s a growing body of reusable, community-supported automation infrastructure that reduces the cost of running HubSpot well.

If you want to stay current on developments like these, the CRM Daily Newsletter covers new tooling, automation patterns, and RevOps workflow updates weekly. And if you’re working through how to structure your automation stack more broadly, the CRM Guides section has step-by-step coverage of the decisions that matter most.

The concrete takeaway this week: if your team manages HubSpot at any meaningful scale and you don’t yet have a scriptable path for bulk CRM operations, hubspotctl 0.8.1 is worth an hour of your time. Install it, run it against a sandbox instance, and see whether it handles the three or four operations your team does most often. That test alone will tell you whether it belongs in your stack.
